As anyone who has ever used the Internet knows, there are always advertisements for web sites and their wares popping up in email messages, along the perimeters of many sites themselves, and so forth. As it turns out, those ads are not the only type of Internet marketing that are being used. In the world of Internet marketing, there are many ways to spread the messages, from auto responders, viral marketing, to backlinks on web sites.

First and foremost, most users of the Internet are aware of a quite popular method of Internet marketing: tee banner advertisement. It is safe to say that most everyone knows that if you click on this ad, you will be directed to anther site that will try to lure you into perusing their products and possibly make a purchase. But there are other ways that businesses market to you, the consumer.

One such way that you may not even realize is Internet marketing is through viral marketing. As the name implies, this type of advertisement spreads quickly across the Web, and it is usually because the people who view the ads do not even realize, or care, that they are performing a type of word-of-mouth advertising for a product or company. Viral marketing ads appear on the bottom of email messages, on video clips - anything that will likely be forwarded to many people.

Internet marketing can also refer to something known as backlinking, wherein web sites have agreements with each other to place links for each others' sites on their site. So, if you are a customer of a particular web business, you are also probably in the target demographic for another company, and there are links embedded in the site that, if you click on them, will direct you to the other site. This is mutually beneficial, because then both sites are able to reach more customers.

Finally, there is the type of Internet marketing that utilizes auto responder technology. Have you ever sent an email to someone only to receive an automatically generated response seconds later? This is because the recipient has an auto responder that lets you know they did receive your message. Now, this is also being used for Internet marketing. Once you have given a business your email address, they can include you in mailings that are promotional, which is a form of Internet marketing.

All in all, Internet marketing is more than many people realize. Whether through the usage of backlinking, viral marketing, auto responders, or even ideal placement of banner advertisements, Internet marketing has one purpose: to increase the business of any given site. Even if these Internet marketing tactics result in just an increase in site traffic, then they have performed their function in reaching customers who are interested enough by the ads to check it out.
