What is a copier?

A copier, also called copy machine or photocopier, is a piece of equipment that rapidly produces paper copies of documents. Depending on the type of machine, these copies can either be black and white or colour. The machine can be used to copy any written material, photo or other visual image.

Different types of copiers

When you hear the word copier, you tend to think of those large machines found in every office building around the world. Actually, those are only one type of copier. You have a surprising number of choices when you’re in the market for a copier. Here are a few of the most common types.

For starters, you’ll want to decide whether you need the ability to produce colour documents. Some copiers produce documents solely in black and white. If you’ll need the occasional colour copy, you can purchase a copier that has both colour and black and white options.

The amount of copying you plan to do each month also matters. Copiers can be divided into three categories, depending on the volume of use:
Small Office – Home Office Copiers (low volume use)
Mid Volume Copiers (Medium level of use)
High Volume Copiers (Large Offices that have high volumes of use)

Portable copier: These copiers are around the size of a regular scanner. Their size makes them easy to move from desk to desk or room to room, which is convenient for both home and office use.

All-in-one copier: These copiers are basically a multifunction device. They’re machines that are also capable of printing, scanning and faxing documents in addition to making photocopies.

Digital copier: Like the all-in-one, digital copiers offer a number of functions in addition to copying. They’re easily connected to your computer and/or network for document handling.

What benefits do copiers have for the home and office?

Copiers can save you money compared to repeatedly using a printing shop for all your copying needs. Convenience is another benefit of purchasing a copier. The ability to photocopy any document is right there at your fingertips. No need to leave your home or office. Plus, it’s available 24 hours a day.

Owning your own copier can also save you time. A copier will get the job done faster than a computer printer when it comes to printing out a large batch of documents. And, again, there’s no need to travel to the print shop.

Where can I buy a copier?

A wide variety of copiers are available at office supply and computer stores. You can also purchase copiers through online retailers. Your best option is to find a manufacturer’s website online and browse all the copiers available.

What may seem like an indulgence could actually be a real necessity for your business or home office. Time and money are two of your most valuable assets. Having your own copier could help you save both!
