The future of Newcastle United boss Kevin Keegan is shrouded in mystery. There were rumours and reports yesterday that Keegan was about to leave the club. Keegan is in his second stint at Newcastle as manager. He is a Geordie hero and is known to the Toon fans as 'King Kev'. It is believed that he is in ongoing talks with the chairman and board about his future at the club. It's the clubs transfer policy which seems to be making Keegan unhappy.
Kevin Keegan is said to be 'concerned' about the situation at the club. There were even reports that the club's board had told the players on Tuesday that Keegan had actually left his position. Keegan is also believed to have problems with Dennis Wise being involved in transfer activity. The rumours yesterday prompted angry protests at St James Park. Fans were calling for Chairman Mike Ashley and the board to quit.
A statement on their official website read "Newcastle United can confirm that meetings between members of the Board and manager Kevin Keegan were held both yesterday and today.
"Kevin has raised a number of issues and those have been discussed with him.
"The club wants to keep progressing with its long-term strategy and would like to stress that Kevin is extremely important, both now and in the future.
"Newcastle United values the effort and commitment shown by Kevin since his return to St. James' Park and wants him to continue to play an instrumental role as manager of the club.
"For the avoidance of doubt the club has not sacked Kevin Keegan as manager."
Newcastle haven't enjoyed the best of fortunes since Keegan was re-appointed, but the fans still have faith in the former England manager and still consider him to be the right man for the job.
