From The Verge:
Leaders of the Democratic National Committee are issuing a formal apology after hacked emails showed members of the committee mocking Bernie Sanders’ campaign for president.
DNC statement says committee is “taking appropriate action”
“On behalf of everyone at the DNC, we want to offer a deep and sincere apology to Senator Sanders, his supporters, and the entire Democratic Party for the inexcusable remarks made over email,” says the statement, signed by incoming interim chair Donna Brazile and other top brass at the DNC. “These comments do not reflect the values of the DNC or our steadfast commitment to neutrality during the nominating process.”
The statement goes on to say the DNC “is taking appropriate action to ensure it never happens again.”
Wikileaks released a cache of emails from the DNC on Friday, and the fallout has been swift. DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz has said she would resign in the wake of the hack. “Wondering if there’s a good Bernie narrative for a story, which is that Bernie never ever had his act together, that his campaign was a mess,” one internal email read.
The Democratic National Convention is just kicking off, but already, Sanders supporters have made their displeasure known. Audible booing has been heard at mentions of Hillary Clinton, although the Sanders campaign has reportedly texted supporters to ask that they not protest on the floor of the convention.
